One of my best friends is a railway signalman up in the Yorkshire Dales. Let’s call him Bob. Bob is train mad. Bob’s girl Molly is expecting a child today so I’m not quite sure how he’s gotten away with researching archive images of my local station but wow! I live in Greenwich & he knows I use Maze Hill station, this morning he sent me this amazing photo & the following…

The picture was taken after rebuilding by the South Eastern & Chatham Railway in around 1908, when the footbridge was installed. He says that there were originally three platforms and that Maze Hill was a terminus of the London & Greenwich Railway. He also says that there were five sets of carriage sidings sat where the housing estate is now, on the north side.

Whaddyafink people? Definitely looks better now eh? I’m gonna print the photo out next week & put it up at the station…

Thanks Bob, now get back to Molly!
